Exercises by Russian warships in Cuba are routine, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
His statement comes a day after Russian ships and the nuclear submarine "Kazan" with guided missiles of the Yasen-M class entered Cuban territorial waters, just 90 miles from the United States.
"Military exercises are a normal practice in various regions of the world, especially for large naval forces such as the Russian Federation," Peskov stressed. At the same time, he specified that such visits are usual and do not mean a threat.
The Russian fleet in Cuba includes the frigate "Admiral Gorshkov", the tanker "Akademik Pashin" and the rescue tug "Nikolay Chiker".
The presence of the Russian fleet near the Caribbean country has attracted the attention of the United States, which is closely monitoring the situation.
A previous statement by the Russian Defense Ministry said the exercises were part of Russia's ongoing global maritime operations, underscoring its significant naval capabilities.
