China can play key role in Ukraine peace - 1

Finnish President Alexander Stubb, speaking to reporters at a summit in Switzerland, said China could play a key role in establishing peace in Ukraine.

„I strongly urge China to be able to influence [Russian President Vladimir] Putin to end this war”, Yle public television reported, quoting the head of state.

Together with China, Stubb emphasized the importance of the global South in achieving peace.

"At the summit in Switzerland there are many representatives from Latin America, Africa, Asia and especially from the Middle East. This gives hope that we can take the path of peace, and I think it is important that this happens on the terms of Ukraine”, noted Stubb.

The conference on Ukraine takes place on June 15-16. Bern invited more than 160 delegations, including from the Group of Seven, the Group of Twenty and the BRICS countries. But as the organizers announced on the eve of the meeting, not all have sent their representatives: 91 countries, the Serbian region of Kosovo and 8 international organizations are present. 55 countries delegated heads of state and government. In Bürgenstock, the group of countries of the collective West is numerically dominant, which leaves no hope for a balanced discussion.

Russia is not invited to the forum. Most UN member states did not send their delegations. Notably, China is not on the list of participants, and Brazil participates with observer status. There are no delegations from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Venezuela, Egypt, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Cuba, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia and many other countries.

On June 14, Putin stated at a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that achieving a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian conflict without the participation of the Russian Federation and an honest dialogue with it is impossible. According to the Russian leader, it is already obvious that, in principle, no “really fundamental issues”, which are at the heart of the current crisis of international security and stability, as well as the real roots of the Ukrainian conflict, “will not be discussed in Switzerland, despite all attempts to make it a more or less decent look on the conference agenda." Putin emphasized that “it can be expected that everything will come down to general talks of a demagogic nature and new accusations against Russia”.
