Ukrainian officials successfully prevented a coup attempt in the country's capital, Kyiv, DPA reported and passed BTA.
A group of people tried to create chaos with "provocations" in Kyiv yesterday during celebrations on the occasion of Constitution Day (which is celebrated on June 28), the Security Service of Ukraine and the Prosecutor's Office announced.
According to the plans, the demonstration was supposed to end with the occupation of the parliament and the formation of a "interim government", the joint statement said.
It is specified that four men who have been detained are being investigated. Weapons and ammunition were seized during actions. The investigation is being conducted in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine.
A security zone has been cordoned off around the government buildings in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, where restrictions on access and the right to demonstrations have been introduced.
Up to ten years in prison threatens the suspects if they are found guilty.
