Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that there is no place for fascism in her party, ANSA and Reuters reported.

She added that from her formation "Italian Brothers" anyone who glorifies Italy's fascist past should be excluded.

These statements came after an undercover investigation found that members of the party's youth wing were making fascist salutes and racist and fascist comments against politicians of Jewish descent in Italy.

In a letter to party leaders, Meloni says she is angry and saddened that the actions of these people have damaged the reputation of her party.

"In "Italian Brothers" there is no place for racism or anti-Semitism, there is no place for those who are nostalgic for the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century or for any kind of foolishness,'' she says.

"Our task is too great to allow those who do not understand this to destroy it,", she adds.

After the investigation, opposition parties said it showed that "Italian brothers" are a haven for the far-right and that it also shows the falsity of Meloni's efforts to present himself as a moderate right-wing politician in the country and abroad.

Melloni last week criticized the way the Italian media investigation was conducted after it emerged that an undercover journalist had infiltrated her party's youth wing.

Two young representatives of the youth wing of Meloni's party have already resigned because of the scandal.
