"Hezbollah": We fired over 200 rockets at several military bases in Israel - 1

The Lebanese group "Hezbollah" announced that it fired more than 200 rockets at several military bases in Israel in response to a strike that killed one of its top commanders, the Associated Press reported, BTA reported.

Today's action by the Iran-backed militant group is one of the largest in the months-long conflict along the Lebanese-Israeli border, where tensions have been high in recent weeks.

The Israeli armed forces have so far not commented on the attack. Yesterday they said that a day earlier they killed Mohammad Nameh Nasser, who led one of the three regional divisions of "Hezbollah" in southern Lebanon.

Hours later "Hezbollah" fired dozens of "Katyusha" rockets and "Falak" with powerful warheads towards northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights. Today, the Lebanese group resumed the rocket fire.

The United States and France continue to try to prevent the skirmishes from escalating into an all-out war that they fear could spread throughout the Arab world, AP notes.
