Prez last night, Russia carried out a drone attack in Ukraine, hitting an energy facility in the northeastern Sumy region, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

Ukraine's mobile drone hunting groups and air defense units shot down 24 of the 27 Russian drones launched in 12 regions, the air force said.

The national operator of the electric transmission network "Ukrenergo" reported that the energy facility in the Sumy region was damaged, which necessitated an emergency shutdown of electricity for industrial users in the city of Sumy. Repair crews are working to restore power, the company added.

There are currently no reports of casualties or damage.

Since March, Russian forces have stepped up their bombardment of the Ukrainian energy sector, knocking out most of Ukraine's thermal power plants and hydropower plants and causing prolonged blackouts across the country. Ukrenergo prepares planned outages of power supply throughout the day across the country as local generation and import of electricity cannot cover the shortfall.

Ukraine's energy system has struggled in the first year since Russia invaded in February 2022, but has lost about half of its available generation capacity due to Russian missile and drone strikes over the past four months.
