All eyes on Tehran! The newly elected president will be sworn in before parliament in early August - 1

The newly elected president of Iran Massoud Pezeshkian will take the oath in front of the parliament at the beginning of next month, which will make him the ninth president of the Islamic Republic, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.

"The inauguration ceremony of the president will take place on August 4 or 5,", the official news agency IRNA quoted the words of Mojtaba Yosefi, a member of the leadership of the Iranian parliament. Pezeshkian will then have 15 days to present the ministers for a vote of confidence.

The presidential election, organized after the death of ultra-conservative President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May, was produced amid popular discontent over the state of the oil-rich country's economy, hit by international sanctions. The inauguration ceremony is expected to take place after the election of the 69-year-old reformer Pezeshkian is officially approved by the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The president in Iran has limited powers - he is responsible for the implementation, at the head of the government, of the general political guidelines set by the supreme leader, who is the head of state and makes final decisions on strategic issues.

Pezeshkian won Friday's presidential runoff against ultraconservative Said Jalili, with 53.6% of the vote.
