NATO wants to strengthen its capacity for intimidation in Europe. For the first time since the Cold War, weapons that can reach the territory of Russia will again be deployed in Germany.
To deter Russia, the US will strengthen measures to protect its European partners in NATO. Therefore, in Germany from the year 2026, cruise missiles "Tomahawk" and other long-range weapons, said a joint US-German statement released on June 10. The document mentions SM-6 anti-aircraft missiles and new models of hypersonic weapons that have a much greater range than current ground-based systems in Europe.
The dpa agency emphasizes that for the first time since the Cold War, weapon systems that can reach the territory of Russia will be deployed in Germany again.
The cruise missiles "Tomahawk"
The Tomahawk cruise missiles, as well as the German Taurus, can penetrate deep into the enemy's territory at a low altitude and destroy important targets such as command centers, bunkers and radars. "Tomahawk" are launched from ships and submarines, and "Taurus" - from airplanes.
U.S. President Joe Biden, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, has expanded the U.S. military presence in Germany and other European countries for more effective protection of NATO territory. Biden has consistently emphasized that the US is firmly committed to helping NATO partners and intends to defend "every meter" from the territory of the Alliance.
