Greece authorities have ordered some enterprises not to allow their employees to work outdoors in the afternoon because of the heat, Reuters reported.
Constructors, food suppliers, couriers and shipbuilders are among those who have to stop work from noon to 5pm from Tuesday to Friday as the mercury is expected to reach 42-43 degrees Celsius in some parts of Greece, the Ministry of Labor specified.
High summer temperatures are characteristic of Greece. They also often cause forest fires.
With most of Greece without rain for months, many of the islands that attract millions of tourists in the summer are struggling with water shortages.
