Vladimir Putin is preparing to start a war against NATO and we must be ready for this scenario. This was stated by the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr (equivalent to the Chief of Defense) General Carsten Breuer to the Sächsische Zeitung.
The Russian army is heading west, the military said. Bundeswehr Inspector General Breuer sees Russia's military buildup as a growing danger.
In five to eight years, Moscow's armed forces will be equipped with the military equipment and personnel to make an attack on NATO territory possible. Breuer refers to analyses, information from the secret services and from Berlin's NATO allies.
„For the Bundeswehr, this means one thing: we must be prepared for this possibility in five years. This is the only way we can deter (potential aggression), Breuer said. According to him, the Russian army adds up to 1,500 tanks to its army every year, while the Bundeswehr currently has about 300 battle tanks.
The German military also said that for now he does not expect significant changes on the front lines in Ukraine, but the country remains dependent on the support of its Western partners. Regarding Donald Trump and military spending in NATO, Breuer pointed out that European countries have clearly understood after the Russian aggression against Ukraine that they need to invest more money in their defense. More and more countries are covering former President Trump's stated 2% of GDP for defense. According to him, Trump will realize how important NATO is if he is re-elected president of the USA.
