Israeli military planes today crossed the sound barrier over Beirut and other areas in Lebanon, the Lebanese news agency NNA reported, citing security forces.
Reuters notes that this heightens tensions at a time when the conflict along the Lebanese-Israeli border between the Iran-backed group "Hezbollah" and Israel escalates.
Lebanon's agency specifies that Israeli warplanes crossed the sound barrier at a low altitude above the capital Beirut, its suburbs and other parts of Lebanon. In Beirut, local residents heard two loud booms as the fighter jets passed.
The Israeli military has not yet commented on these reports, Reuters notes.
