A Ukrainian military commander called on the population to wake up because the Russians are advancing, and people are already calmly accepting the loss of settlements, UNIAN agency reported.
Maxim Zhorin, who is the deputy commander of the Third Separate Assault Brigade of the ZSU, expressed concern that Ukrainians now take it for granted that the Russian army has captured a village or town in the east.
„If a year ago the loss of even the smallest inhabited place was perceived as a problem on which attention should be focused, today it is somehow commonplace. "Although the Russians are suffering huge losses, they are gradually advancing," the officer pointed out.
Maxim Zhorin stated that Ukrainian society is currently polarized – while some are fighting at the front, others think that what is happening is none of their business. And the situation at the front is becoming more and more complicated, said the military commander. According to him, those who are now leaving the army will feel the consequences of the arrival of the Russians on an equal basis with everyone else.
Although the offensive of the Russian army in the Kharkiv region failed, in the south and east the occupiers advanced slowly but methodically. Kiev called on its Western partners to speed up the delivery of weapons and ammunition. And although Ukraine has stepped up mobilization, a large-scale one has not yet been announced in the country because of the political consequences arising from such an unpopular decision.
