< p>Germany's largest arms company "Rheinmetall" confirmed today that it is building an ammunition plant in Ukraine after receiving an order from the Ukrainian government, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The project was originally announced in February. The volume of the order is within several hundred million euros, and the production of ammunition will begin within 24 months. Hundreds of thousands of pieces of artillery ammunition will be produced every year.
The main emphasis will be placed on the production of 155 mm ammunition, which is used by Western countries, but the production of other types of ammunition is also planned.
The plant will be run through a joint venture that "Rheinmetall" intends to establish soon together with a state-owned Ukrainian company.
The enterprise will "create a Ukrainian center of excellence in the field of ammunition production together with our partner," noted the head of the German arms company "Reinmetall" Armin Paperger.
The large German arms manufacturer is one of the most important suppliers of military equipment to Ukraine. Düsseldorf-based arms company "Rhinemetall" has already supplied Kiev with tanks, anti-aircraft defense systems, ammunition and other equipment.
