The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics was a pathetic spectacle, incomparable to Russia's hosting of the 2014 Sochi Games or the World Cup in football in 2018. This opinion was expressed by the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, TASS agency reported.

„I don't even want to say anything about the Olympics in Paris – it's a pitiful spectacle, remember the Olympics in Sochi or the football World Cup, held brilliantly in our country”, Medvedev said when asked to assess the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics.

Speaking of the “disgusting spectacle” at the opening of the Games, the deputy head of Russia's Security Council stressed that France, under (President Emmanuel) Macron, had degraded, and the ceremony featured the grimaces and screams of a mad, godless crowd. "Such a shame!" Medvedev concluded. He urged: “Turn off your televisions and do not follow the shameful freak show on the Internet!“

During the opening ceremony of the games in Paris on July 26, a provocative parody of Leonardo da Vinci's work “The Last Supper” was demonstrated. In addition, the event was marked by incidents: the Olympic flag near the Eiffel Tower was hung upside down, and announcers in the stadium announced athletes from South Korea as representatives of North Korea.

Organizers of the opening ceremony of the Paris Games apologized to Catholics and other Christian communities who felt affected by the parody of Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting “The Last Supper”, Reuters reported.

The segment during the ceremony is a re-enactment of the biblical scene with Jesus Christ and the apostles sharing a last supper before the crucifixion. In Paris, however, representatives of the LGBT community took part in the scene. Besides them, a naked singer who was dressed as the Greek god of wine, Dionysus, also sang. “It is clear that we never intended to show disrespect to any religious group. The opening ceremony tried to celebrate the tolerance of society”, a spokeswoman for Paris 2024 said at a press conference.
