Costa Rica is ready to offer asylum to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado and presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica, Arnoldo Andre, quoted by Reuters, quoted by News.bg.
According to him, information was received about warrants issued for the arrest of Machado and Gonzalez. Arnoldo Andre indicated that Costa Rica could grant asylum to them and all other politically persecuted people in Venezuela.
A day earlier, security forces made two unsuccessful attempts to enter the Argentine embassy in Caracas, where several opposition figures are hiding, against whom arrest warrants have been issued.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro declared victory in the election. However, the opposition did not recognize the results. The tension led to protests in the country and clashes with the police.
Costa Rica's presidency also did not recognize the results announcing Maduro's victory, calling them fraudulent.
