Australia has urged its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately, saying there is a real risk of tensions between Israel and the Lebanese Shiite movement "Hezbollah" to escalate seriously, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
This week similar warnings were issued by the authorities of the USA, Great Britain and Germany.
"Now is the time to leave, the security situation can quickly deteriorate and you may have very little or no time to react," Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said in a video posted on the social network "X".
Wong also said Beirut's airport could be closed if the situation worsens, denying those wishing to leave Lebanon the ability to do so. The minister urged Australians in Lebanon to leave the country on commercial flights while they are still available.
About 15,000 Australians reside in Lebanon, according to Reuters, citing the Australian Foreign Ministry.
