Protesters in Bangladesh have stormed the official residence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after fierce clashes, in which more than 100 people have died so far. It is noted that shortly before that she fled to neighboring India, reports the BILD newspaper, quoted by Focus.

Bangladesh's army chief Waqar Uz Zaman announced that an interim government would be formed after the prime minister's resignation. “After fruitful discussions with all political parties, we have decided to form an interim government,” theDhaka Tribune quoted him as saying.

Mass protests in Bangladesh began in July when students protested against the introduction of a quota system in the distribution of civil service positions.

Police detained about 10,000 people during the protests. Over time, people from various walks of life, including celebrities, joined the student demonstrations. 47 companies from the textile industry, which is vital to the country's economy, also expressed solidarity with the demonstrators.
