Russian propagandist Sergei Mardan threatened the Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region with a tactical nuclear weapon, writes on the social network X Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

This is because, in his words, the Kursk region is a “rooted historical Russian core”. Apparently, different regions of Russia have different values for him. Nuclear threats are commonplace from Russian media propagandists as well as officials. The goal is more than clear: to stop Western support to Ukraine.

According to Mardan, Western countries will consider it “logical“ Russia to use nuclear weapons against the Ukrainian army. The presenter's comment was made against the background of the Ukrainian offensive in Russia's Kursk region. It is not clear whether it involves only Russian partisans fighting on the side of Kiev, or the regular Ukrainian army as well.

The acting governor of the Kursk region, Aleksei Smirnov, announced that he had declared a state of emergency in the border region, although it was not clear what measures this included. Critics in Ukraine and the West argue that such attacks have no long-term military objective. In March, pro-Kiev Russian fighters launched attacks from Ukraine in Belgorod and Kursk regions, but were repulsed without achieving strategic gains.
