Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that last night they carried out a successful strike against an air base in Russia's Lipetsk region, nearly 300 km from the border between the two countries, reported Ukrinform and France Press, quoted by BTA.
„The attack hit warehouses with guided aerial bombs and other objects in the area of the base,”, the statement said. As a result of the strike, a large fire broke out, multiple explosions were also reported, the Ukrainian General Staff specified.
„Russian Su-34, Su-35 and MiG-31 aircraft are known to be stationed at the base's airport, according to the same source. In addition, Russian air defense forces were struck in the occupied Donetsk region, three radars were hit.
The operation involved missile units, special operations forces, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the Unmanned Systems Forces, notes the Ukrainian General Staff.
According to an Ukrinform source from the SSU, most of the planes at the base airport failed to leave it in time, the airport was set on fire as a result of a chain explosion.
At the same time, TASS reported that the alarm in Lipetsk, Belgorod and Kursk regions has been lifted, residents can return to their homes. However, 9 people were injured in the Lipetsk region, and entertainment events were canceled due to the frequent attacks. After the massive shock, the electricity supply in the Lipetsk region is carried out by backup sources.
