Ukraine's navy and military intelligence have attacked and damaged a defunct coastal a gas platform in the Black Sea used by Russian forces, Reuters reported, citing BTA, citing a spokesman for the Ukrainian military.

According to Ukrainian media, at least 40 Russian soldiers were killed in the attack on the gas platform, DPA reported.

"The occupiers used this place for "spoofing" cyber attacks tampering with GPS data to make navigation unsafe for civilians.

"We cannot allow such a thing," told the news site "Ukrainska Pravda" the spokesman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Dmytro Pletenchuk. He released a video taken last night showing an explosion on an offshore platform and the ensuing fire. According to him, half a day before the attack, the Russian forces deployed equipment and military personnel on the platform.

"There were no civilians there. The platform did not function normally," Pletenchuk said without giving further details.

According to the spokesman of the Ukrainian armed forces, the platform has already been used earlier by Russian forces to cause disruptions in the navigation of grain cargo ships. The decision to attack her was made for the safety of civilian shipping.

Reuters noted that it was unable to verify this information through independent sources, and Moscow did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
