Despite sending in additional forces, Vladimir Putin's army has so far failed to respond to the surprise Ukrainian invasion that began in the early hours of August 6.
Ukrainian forces managed to advance nearly 30 kilometers into Russian territory. “We are going deeper,” said a Ukrainian soldier, adding that Ukrainian armed forces have the upper hand despite the fact that Russia has brought in reinforcements. Another soldier told the FT that the early success of the surprise operation "really lifted our spirits".
At the same time, a representative of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said that the details of the operation and its purpose have not yet been disclosed, as the Armed Forces of Ukraine are “still waiting to see how everything will develop”.
