The sudden attack by Ukrainian troops against the Kursk region has shocked Russian President Vladimir Putin and the military leadership in Moscow.
As Bild writes, the Ukrainian armed forces are putting relentless pressure on the Russians with drones, missiles and artillery. The latter were forced to call for reinforcements, but so far this does not help them. At the same time, according to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Ukrainian offensive may still slow down.
The publication notes that chaos reigned in the Kursk region for several days in a row. The Russian authorities publicly announced the allegedly successful and voluntary evacuation of the local population.
A source among Ukrainian security officials revealed that the operation in the Kursk region is aimed at "destabilizing Russia”.
"We are going on the offensive. The goal is to disperse the enemy's positions, inflict maximum losses on him and destabilize the situation in Russia," the media interlocutor says.
