"The disaster with the submarine "Kursk" was the symbolic beginning of the rule of Vladimir Putin, now we can see what the end will be. The operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in Russia's Kursk region is primarily aimed at securing the Ukrainian border area, which is subject to systematic shelling from Russian territory. This is what the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated in his evening address on August 12, reports UNIAN.

Volodymyr Zelensky notes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have taken under their control precisely those areas of the Kursk region, from where the shelling of the Sumy region takes place.

"To date and since June 1, almost 2,100 shellings have been carried out on the territory of the Sumy region. Therefore, our operations are purely a matter of security for Ukraine, liberation of the border area from the Russian military," he emphasized.

The head of state of Ukraine also expresses his gratitude to the Ukrainian units that replenish the exchange fund of Ukraine.

"It is of fundamental importance to us to return all our people from Russian captivity. And today, the Headquarters of the Supreme Command gave instructions to the structures that deal with the exchange - namely the GRU (Main Intelligence Directorate), the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs - to communicate as actively as possible with the relatives of the Ukrainian prisoners. (...) In general, they were ordered to present a clear strategy for the return of our people from Russian captivity. The corresponding report must be presented at the next meeting of the Stavka", he emphasizes.

Zelensky also draws a historical parallel between the sinking of the Russian submarine "Kursk" in the first year of Vladimir Putin's rule and today's events.

"The disaster of "Kursk" was the symbolic beginning of his reign, now we can see what the finale is for him. Also like "Kursk" - the disaster of his war. So it is always with those who despise people and all rules. Russia brought the war to others, now it is coming home to her. "Ukraine has always wanted only peace, and we will definitely ensure peace," the president of Ukraine said.
