Zelensky: Our army is advancing in Kursk region - 1

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that his country's armed forces continue to advance in Russia's Kursk region and since the beginning of the day they have moved by one up to two kilometers ahead in different directions, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

In a video uploaded to his official Telegram account, Zelensky spoke via video link with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Colonel-General Oleksandr Sirsky, who reported that 100 Russian prisoners of war had been taken since the start of the cross-border offensive.

Kiev surprised Moscow by sending thousands of troops into western Russia's Kursk region last week. The surprise operation gave Ukraine its biggest battlefield success since 2022, after months of being on the defensive.

Kiev claims to have established control over more than 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory. Sirsky said the Russian border town of Suja is under full Ukrainian control. "The search and destruction of the enemy in the village of Suja has been completed," he says in the video.

Reuters agency notes that it has not been able to verify the reliability of this information through independent sources. Russian President Vladimir Putin promised a "appropriate response" of the Ukrainian attack and accused the "western masters" to Ukraine for helping it.
