Croatia brings back compulsory military service - 1

Croatia will re-introduce conscription on January 1, 2025, and compulsory military service will last for two months, Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anusic announced yesterday, quoted by HINA, broadcast BTA.

In 2008, Croatia suspended conscription and since then interested candidates have applied for service on a voluntary basis. However, after Russia's aggression against Ukraine and increasingly turbulent world military and political events, Croatia began to think about returning to conscription.

In an interview with the Croatian television broadcaster RTL on Thursday evening, Anušić also spoke about the modernization of the armed forces.

„The modernization and equipment of the armed forces is going according to expectations and in accordance with our agreement with our NATO allies and the NATO leadership“, said the minister and added that there will be no savings in this area.
