The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) today ordered new evacuations from areas in the southern and central parts of the Gaza Strip, which were previously declared humanitarian zones . According to the army, these places were used by the Palestinian movement “Hamas” for mortar and rocket attacks on Israel, reported Reuters.
The IDF said it sent leaflets and text messages warning the areas north of Khan Younis city and east of Deir el-Balah, where tens of thousands of people are fleeing the fighting in other parts of Gaza.
„The advance warning to civilians is issued to reduce damage to the civilian population and allow them to stay away from hostilities,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.
Earlier, the IDF said that yesterday it struck an area in Khan Younis from where rockets were fired towards the village of Kisufim. Weapons such as hand rocket launchers and explosives were found.
The current evacuation warnings come as negotiators in Doha are expected to gather for a second day of talks aimed at reaching an agreement to end the fighting in Gaza and return Israeli and foreign hostages held in Gaza.
