CIA Director William Burns arrived today on a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, local media reported, as quoted by BTA.
He will stay in the country for only a few hours, notes radio "Sarajevo". After meeting in a Sarajevo restaurant with the director of the Bosnian Intelligence and Security Agency, Almir Juvo, Burns headed to the presidency, Dnevni Avaz informed.
There will be a short meeting with the three members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković.
William Burns knows the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, notes radio "Sarajevo". As US Deputy Secretary of State in 2012, he visited the country and spoke with the then members of the multi-ethnic three-member Bosnian presidency.
Burns has worked under six presidents and administrations (of both parties) during his nearly four decades of public service in diplomacy and intelligence. He is only the second diplomat in history to become deputy secretary of state, and he was also the US ambassador to Russia and Jordan, notes Radio Free Europe.
President Joe Biden appointed him to the post of director of the US Central Intelligence Agency in January 2021
Former CIA Director John Brennan last visited Sarajevo in 2016
