Russia is preparing for a large-scale mobilization of military personnel due to the huge losses inflicted by Vladimir Putin's army in the war against Ukraine, BILD reported.
Since the start of the full-scale war, between 110,000 and 140,000 Russian soldiers are believed to have been killed at the front. The offensive of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region deepened Moscow's problems.
The German publication, however, believes that the mobilization will be carried out “secretly” so as not to create public discontent.
Russia has increased the number of its troops in Ukraine from 400,000 at the beginning of the year to 600,000 now and plans to increase this number to 800,000 by the end of the year.
However, the funds available to the Russian regions to recruit contract soldiers are running out. A large-scale mobilization is brewing. There are suggestions that Putin may use the advance of Ukraine's armed forces in the Kursk region to attract more Russians to the army.
