U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate for the upcoming presidential election, has collected $540 million in donations in just over a month since the candidacy was announced her, reported Reuters, referring to messages of her campaign headquarters.

Donations have increased significantly since the Democratic National Convention this week, where she formally accepted the nomination, the staff noted.

According to a memo released by Harris' campaign manager – Jen O‘Mallie Dillon - $82 million of the amount raised was donated during the convention, a sign of enthusiasm among Democrats for her candidacy.

„Just before Vice President Harris' acceptance speech Thursday night, we officially passed the $500 million mark,'' Dillon said, adding, “Right after her speech, we saw the most significant influx of funds. , since the campaign began. The amount raised exceeds any other at this stage of any presidential campaign“.

Trump has also shown to be good at fundraising, but appears to be lagging behind the amount raised by Harris' month-long campaign. The former president's campaign announced earlier this month that it raised $138.7 million in July -- less than what Harris raised in just the first week of her bid for the White House. Trump's campaign reported $327 million in cash as of early August.

Vice President Harris became a presidential candidate on July 21 after President Joe Biden withdrew under pressure from many Democrats concerned about his cognitive abilities following the June 27 debate with Donald Trump.

Harris' candidacy has put Trump on the defensive and he is struggling to keep the media spotlight on himself, Reuters notes.

Harris and her vice presidential running mate, Tim Walz, are embarking on a campaign bus tour of Georgia this week, seeking to drum up support in the state, which has emerged as a key swing state for the Nov. 5 election.
