Three people were stabbed on the first day of the biggest street carnival in Europe - the one in Notting Hill in London. A 32-year-old woman's life is in danger, the police in London reported, quoted by the Associated Press, BTA reported.
The two-day carnival of Afro-Caribbean culture takes place every year in London's Notting Hill district and is expected to attract more than 1 million visitors by the end of today. About 7,000 police officers are monitoring the observance of order during the demonstration.
Police said they had arrested 90 people yesterday, of whom 10 were detained for assaulting an emergency crew, 18 for possession of a weapon and 4 for sex offences.
"Hundreds of thousands came to the Notting Hill Festival today to enjoy a fantastic celebration," police said in a statement. "Unfortunately, a small number of them came to commit a crime and participate in violence,", added the police.
