The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said after his visit today to the Kursk nuclear power plant that there is a danger of a “nuclear accident” and that the situation is serious, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
Russia says the plant has been repeatedly attacked by Ukrainian forces, who are 40 kilometers away, after they crossed into Russia earlier this month. Ukraine has not yet responded to Russia's accusations.
Grossi said at a press conference that the Kursk NPP is extremely vulnerable, as there is no protective dome built.
The director of the IAEA said that the plant is operating in close to normal conditions, but this means that the problem regarding its safety becomes even more serious.
