A gunman today killed three Israelis in an attack near the Allenby Bridge crossing with Jordan before security forces shot him dead, Israeli officials said, cited by Reuters and BTA.
"A terrorist approached the area of the "Allenby Bridge", coming from Jordan in a truck, got out of the truck and opened fire on the Israeli security forces on the bridge. The terrorist was eliminated by security forces and three Israeli civilians were killed in the attack," the Israeli army said in a statement.
The crossing, also known as the "King Hussein Bridge", is located midway between Amman and Jerusalem, north of the Dead Sea.
The point "Allenby Bridge" is used by Palestinians, Israelis and tourists from around the world, notes the Associated Press.
Violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank increased after the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" carried out an unprecedented attack on Israel.
