Latvian Army: This is an explosive armed Russian drone Shahed - 1

The Russian drone that flew into Latvia from Belarus on Saturday was a drone type "Shaheed", loaded with explosives. This was announced by the leadership of the Latvian army at a press conference in Riga, quoted by the BBC.

According to the Latvian press, the Minister of Defense of Latvia Andris Spruds, the Commander of the National Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Leonid Kalnins, and the Commander of the Air Force, Colonel Viesturs Masiulis, took part in the press conference.

They told reporters that experts are studying the remains of the drone that crashed in eastern Latvia, in the Rezekne region. Kalnins repeated what he had already said on Sunday: the Latvian National Armed Forces, he said, immediately detected a drone flying in Latvian airspace early Saturday morning and monitored it until it crashed.

The Latvian military believes that "The Martyr" flew to Latvia by accident.

Rezekne regional council chairman Monvid Schwartz told Latvian news agency LETA that the drone fell in a field away from populated areas. The Delfi portal writes that the drone fell in the Gaigalav Volost, that is, about 90 km from the nearest point on the border with Belarus.

Neither the military nor local authorities are talking about an explosion when the kamikaze drone fell.

Last week, during at least two overnight drone attacks, Ukrainian surveillance channels reported several drones flying in Belarus, and the Belarusian military once confirmed reports that a drone had been shot down in the Gomel region, without specify by whom it was fired.
