At least 26 people drowned after as a boat with migrants sank off the coast of Senegal, DPA reported, quoted by BTA, citing a statement from the navy of the African country.
Local representatives fear that the number of victims may be higher, the agency adds. It is believed that over 200 people were on board the boat.
The Senegalese navy has announced that so far its troops have recovered 26 bodies from the water that were on the boat that sank on Sunday shortly after leaving the coastal town of Mbour.
The Senegalese navy added that during the rescue operations they intercepted two boats with a total of 421 migrants, including 20 children, DPA said.
