Economic damage to Russia from the Ukrainian invasion of Russia's Kursk region amounted to almost 1 billion dollars, and more than 150 thousand people have been evacuated, Governor Alexei Smirnov announced, quoted by Reuters, writes BTA.
On August 6, Ukrainian forces invaded Russia's Kursk region with thousands of troops, backed by drones and heavy weaponry, including Western-made weapons and equipment. Kursk Oblast is a major producer of grain in Russia. It contributed 4% of the total grain harvest for the last year in Russia.
„The introduction of a regime of emergency situations and a regime of counter-terrorist operation had a significant effect on the economy of the region,” said Smirnov.
„The estimated damage amounts to tens of billions of rubles and continues to grow,” says the governor. According to a presentation he made today, the total losses reached 935 million US dollars.
According to Smirnov, the harvest could not be completed in an area of 160 thousand hectares, and oil crops in the amount of 500 thousand tons and sugar beet in the amount of 700 thousand tons were damaged or exported from Russia.
Smirnov's data indicate that more than 300,000 tons of grain remain in warehouses in the territories occupied by Ukraine. He also reported significant losses in the livestock sector, with losses exceeding 350,000 pigs and cattle.
