The status of Crimea is among the issues on which there is disagreement between Moscow and Ankara, but Russia is doing its best to convince its Turkish friends in the rightness of their position. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this at a press conference today in a comment on a statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the return of Crimea to Ukraine is a requirement of international law.

„This topic refers to the category of disagreements that exist between us and our Turkish friends”, Peskov stated and added: “We do not give up our purposeful attempts to further explain our point of view to our Turkish friends and colleagues” ;, reports TASS.

Peskov expressed hope that in time Turkey will understand the Russian position and agree with Moscow's arguments.

„We continue to develop our relations with Turkey, partnership relations”, Peskov also said.

On September 11, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a video message to the participants of the Crimean Platform summit, in which he stated that Turkey continues to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine, and the return of Crimea to Ukraine is a requirement of international law.

The Crimean Platform is an international format created in 2021 at the initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to improve the effectiveness of the international response to the annexation of Crimea by Russia (2014), search for an answer to the growing security challenges, preventing further human rights violations and ensuring the protection of victims.
