Humiliation for Zelensky: the president of Mexico with Bulgarian roots turned down an invitation to visit Ukraine - 1

The newly elected Mexican president Claudia Scheinbaum announced that she intends to pursue a policy of non-intervention in foreign affairs and, in this sense, continue the course of the previous head of state, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. That is why she declined an invitation from President Volodymyr Zelensky to visit Ukraine after taking office on October 1, Ukrinform reported, citing the news portal "Fuser News". (Fuser News), BTA reported.

"Our responsibility is here. We will be attending some international events that we think are important, but we won't be traveling much. Our responsibility is here", said Scheinbaum and emphasized that the priority for her government will be to solve the internal problems.

She indicated that she would continue the foreign policy line of her predecessor López Obrador, whose leitmotif is non-interference in the affairs of other countries and support for the peaceful resolution of any conflict. Scheinbaum reaffirmed Mexico's commitment to maintaining diplomatic relations with all countries except Ecuador, where there was an incident at the Mexican embassy in April that she described as a "undermining of sovereignty" of her country.

Claudia Sheinbaum won Mexico's presidential election in June. Zelensky congratulated her on the victory, Ukrinform recalls.

FACTS recalls that Sheinbaum has Bulgarian roots. Her maternal grandparents are emigrants from Plovdiv. They fled Bulgaria in the early 1940s to escape the Holocaust.
