Pro-Iranian armed groups in Iraq claimed responsibility for attack on Israel - 1

Pro-Iranian armed groups that form the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” today claimed responsibility for drone attacks on Israel, which from its country announced that it had intercepted “several suspicious flying objects” from Iraq, reported France Press.

“Fighters from the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq“ on Sunday morning, using drones, targeted a strategic target in our occupied territories, the group said in a statement posted on the Telegram messaging app. The text explains that the actions are “in resistance to the occupation” and “in support of our people in Gaza“.

At night “several suspicious flying objects“ approached Israel from Iraq, the Israeli military said, adding that they had been intercepted and no injuries were reported.

This attack was carried out against the background of the tense situation in the region, fueled by the war in Gaza, which has been going on for almost a year, notes AFP.

The Lebanese Islamist movement “Hizbullah“, which enjoys the support of Iraqi armed groups, announced today that it had “bombed“ Israeli military industrial complexes, as “first response” of the explosions of hundreds of pagers and radios belonging to its members earlier this week, which it blames on Israel.

The Israeli army said about a hundred shells were fired from Lebanon.

„Islamic Resistance in Iraq“ includes fighters from the ranks of the “Hezbollah“ brigades, the “An Nujaba“ and “Syed al Shuhada Brigades“ - pro-Iranian armed groups that are subject to US sanctions.

In recent months “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” issued several statements claiming responsibility for launching drones at targets in Israel. Without naming the attacker, since April the Israeli military has confirmed attacks coming from the east, saying drones have been intercepted.

By the end of 2023, more than 175 missile strikes and drone strikes have also been carried out in Iraq and Syria against American soldiers involved in the international anti-jihadist coalition led by Washington.

The “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” takes responsibility for these attacks. In recent months, they have practically ceased, and with the exception of a few strikes there has been a precarious calm, notes AFP.
