The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, met in New York with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Massoud Pezeshkian, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. They discussed the most important aspects of cooperation between Serbia and Iran, as well as the global geopolitical situation, with a special topic of conversation being the plight of the Serbs in Kosovo, Tanjug reported, quoted by BTA.

Vucic wrote on Instagram that in the cordial meeting with Pezeshkian, he emphasized the importance of the UN in efforts to strengthen dialogue and diplomatic actions in order to quickly calm the conflicts, the consequences of which are already deep and far-reaching. "A special topic of the conversation was the plight of the Serbian people in Kosovo and I informed the esteemed interlocutor in detail about all the challenges related to solving the numerous and serious issues in this regard,” Vucic stated.

Serbia and the Kosovo Serbs do not recognize the independence of Kosovo declared in 2008. The two countries are conducting a dialogue to normalize relations under the auspices of the EU.

The Serbian president added that he once again thanked Iran for its consistent and unwavering position regarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia and stressed that Serbia values this position. Vucic said he invited the Iranian president to visit Serbia to discuss the potential for cooperation in various fields and strengthening relations between the two countries.

The President of Serbia also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Wang Yi, during the conversation he presented the increasingly difficult situation for the Serbian people in Kosovo and asked for Chinese support in this matter.

Vucic said on Instagram that he had a very important meeting with Wang Yi and that he discussed with him all the most important topics, from bilateral relations to the global problems they face today. “I presented him with the increasingly difficult situation of the Serbian people in Kosovo and asked for Chinese support in the fight for truth and compliance with international law,” Vucic wrote.

He emphasized Serbia's gratitude to China, which voted against the Srebrenica resolution in the UN General Assembly, and asked Wang Yi to convey Serbia's greetings and gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping for his constant support and sincere friendship.
