Iran will not remain inactive in the event of a full-scale war in Lebanon, said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi, quoted by DPA.
He made the statement during a meeting of foreign ministers in New York (USA), his department announced today.
Also, Arakchi called for arms and trade sanctions to be imposed on Israel. The minister accused the international community of incompetence and ineffectiveness regarding a possible ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese movement "Hezbollah".
The regime in Tehran is considered the most strategic ally of the Lebanese Shiite group, DPA said, while clarifying that according to political observers, Iran is unlikely to come to the movement's aid in a future war.
The new Iranian government, headed by President Massoud Pezeshkian, is struggling with a severe economic crisis and is seeking rapprochement with the West, the agency notes.
