Russia has announced that it has captured the village of Marinovka in Ukraine's Donetsk region, where its troops continue to make their way to the city of Pokrovsk - an important Ukrainian logistics center, Reuters reported.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not comment on the situation in Marinovka, but said that the areas near it and around the city of Selidovo, in the southwest, had seen the greatest concentration of Russian attacks over the past 24 hours. The General Staff reported that 42 Russian attacks on the front line near Pokrovsk had been repulsed.
Reuters was unable to confirm the claims through an independent source from either side.
In recent weeks, Russian forces have accelerated their advance in the Donetsk region, capturing a number of towns and villages, Reuters notes.
Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the United States to seek additional support from Washington and its allies. Yesterday, US President Joe Biden announced more than $8 billion in military aid to Ukraine to help Kiev "win this war,", Reuters notes.
