The Israeli army today confirmed that overnight it “eliminated“ the leader of the Palestinian movement “Hamas” in Lebanon, where its forces carry out operations against the Lebanese armed group “Hezbollah”, reported Reuters.
Overnight, the army “attacked and eliminated the terrorist Fatah Sharif, head of the Lebanese branch of the terrorist organization “Hamas”, the Israeli armed forces said in a statement, adding that he was “responsible for coordinating the terrorist actions of “ ;Hamas“ in Lebanon with agents of “Hezbollah”.
„He is also responsible for trying to recruit agents and provide weapons to “Hamas” in Lebanon”, the statement also said, and indicated that the army and the Shin Bet (Israel's internal security agency) continue to “act against anyone who poses a threat to the citizens of the State of Israel”.
Earlier today in a statement “Hamas“ said the organization's leader in Lebanon – Fatah Sharif Abu al-Amin, who is also a member of the leadership of the movement abroad, was killed in an attack on his home in the Palestinian refugee camp “Al Bas”, in the southern part of Lebanon.
According to the Lebanese news agency ANI, the air strike against “Al Bas“, near the city of Tire, is the first of its kind against this refugee camp.
Fattah Sharif was also an employee of the Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA), but has been placed on administrative leave in recent months, according to the Agency.
„Fatah al-Sharif was a UNRWA official who was placed on unpaid administrative leave in March and was investigated following allegations received by UNRWA about his political activities,” the UN agency said in a statement to AFP.
