The Russian army committed another brutal war crime in Ukraine, executing 16 Ukrainian soldiers who had surrendered and were unarmed.
Ukrainian media write that 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war were executed in the Pokrovsky direction of the front (Donetsk region).
A video was also published on several Telegram channels, showing how under the control of the enemy captured servicemen of the Ukrainian armed forces go out into the field after the occupiers deliberately opened fire on them.
The Ukrainian prosecutor's office, which is verifying the authenticity of the footage and has launched an investigation into the case, has announced that such actions are a cynical and gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and are classified as a serious international crime. It is even reported to be the largest single execution of Ukrainian POWs on the front lines so far in the full-scale war.
„This is yet another proof that the murders and torture of prisoners are not accidental, but a purposeful policy of the Russian military and political leadership,” announced the Ukrainian prosecutor's office.
The Commissioner of the Supreme Council for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, said that these are as many as 16 soldiers who, according to the Geneva Conventions, should have protection from the country that took them as prisoners, UNIAN reported. However, Russia once again grossly violates international conventions and agreements.
