Russia supports China's policy in Asia, including Beijing's criticism of US efforts to expand its influence in the Asia-Pacific region and its "deliberate attempts" of Washington to raise tensions over Taiwan.
This is what he stated in an interview published today for the official "Rosiyskaya Gazeta" on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Beijing and Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, quoted by Reuters.
Lavrov also highly appreciates the "balanced and consistent" China's position on the war in Ukraine and adds that both sides want to eliminate the problems at the root of the conflict.
The minister said that Moscow and Beijing share similar views in "assessing the risks associated with the West's attempts to expand its influence in the Asia-Pacific region.
"The US and its satellites are deliberately escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait," Lavrov stated in the interview.
"In violation of the principle of "one China", which they recognize, they are strengthening their ties with the authorities on the island. Russia's position on the issue of Taiwan is expressed in unwavering support for China's territorial integrity, expressed at various levels, including at the highest level," Lavrov summarized.
