Former US President Donald Trump, who in just weeks will try to win another term in the White House, said that a “military operation“ against the cartels in the country, News Nation reported.
Republican presidential candidate and former owner of the White House Donald Trump is convinced of the need for a military operation to combat fentanyl trafficking in the United States.
„We need a military operation to stop what is happening with fentanyl. These cartels are armed, rich and evil - they kill over 300,000 people a year,” Trump said.
„Fentanyl comes from China and then comes across the border and we will stop it, even if it means military action. This is no small problem – this is a big war. We are losing more Americans to drugs than in the Civil War. We will not tolerate it anymore," the Republican said.
„People are dying at a rate never seen before,” said Trump, who said it was time for the military to step in to stop the spread of drugs.
In the US, synthetic opioids have long been causing a serious crisis, writes DW, citing ARD. There, the drug problem mostly affects young people, and overdose is the most common cause of death in the 19-45 age group. On social networks, many young people talk about their addiction to fentanyl – it was the “worst drug” they had ever taken. Parents post mourning videos with pictures of their dead children.
