In Turkey, options are being discussed to block access to the “Telegram” platform, after access to “Discord” was stopped overnight. (“Discord“) for finding content that violates the law, Turkish media reported, quoted by BTA.
Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced that two teenagers who were users of “Discord” have been identified. and “Telegram” and have created and published content that violates the law.
According to Yerlikaya, the content is indecent for children, contains insults to government officials and the army, as well as religious attacks. The authors of this content have been arrested.
The Turkish edition of Euronews reported that in several groups in “Telegram” and “Discord“ femicide was glorified, violence against women and self-harm encouraged. Obscene pictures of girls were also posted on the platforms.
Two brutal murders of young women shook Turkey at the end of last week. The killer of the girls, Semih Celik, was found to have communicated with like-minded people in an online group called "incel" ("insel", from the English words "involuntary celibate", i.e. "bachelor by choice"). The members of this group, who are hostile to women, communicated with each other through the “Discord“ platform.
