Political scandal in Croatia during Zelensky's visit - 1

Zoran Milanovic is the president of Croatia and it is unacceptable that he was not invited to the Ukraine-Southeast Europe summit in Dubrovnik, said the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP), adding that this is particularly unacceptable, given that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was invited to the same meeting, HINA reported.

"It is completely unacceptable that a person who is probably not sure even today if Dubrovnik is a Croatian city was invited to a summit meeting in the same city, and the directly elected president of Croatia was not invited to the meeting. This speaks of a takeover of state institutions and a lack of cooperation between those who define foreign policy, which is certainly a shame for Croatia," said SDP leader Sinisa Hajdas Doncic.

Dubrovnik today hosts a summit of Southeast Europe in support of Ukraine.

Co-organized by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, this is the third summit in this format – the first was organized in August 2022 in Athens, and the second – in February 2024 in Tirana. The leaders of 12 countries, including Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, were invited, but not the host country's president, the agency noted.

Zelensky arrived in Croatia amid another political spat between President Milanović and Prime Minister Plenković - this time over Ukraine itself, after the head of state refused to agree to the Ministry of Defense sending up to five military personnel to train Ukrainian soldiers in Germany as part of a NATO mission, HINA reminds.
