Turkey has imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of certain types of steel from China, Russia, India and Japan, according to a decision published in the Turkish state gazette on Monday, with the highest duties imposed on imports from China, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

The duties imposed will range between 6.10 percent and 43.31 percent of the value, insurance and freight (CIF) prices, the decision said, taken to prevent “unfair competition“ following complaints from local producers last year.

An investigation into imports of hot-rolled steel following a complaint from local producers showed that alleged dumping of steel from China, Russia, India and Japan threatens to harm domestic production, the decision published in the Turkish state gazette said.

Tariffs imposed on imports from China range from about 15 to 43 percent, while tariffs imposed on imports from Russia, India and Japan are in the range of 6-9 percent, the publication said.

Ankara's decision comes amid rising trade tensions between China and the European Union over tariffs on electric vehicles, cognac and other goods, and following China's complaint to the World Trade Organization over import duties imposed on Chinese electric vehicles entering Turkey, the agency reminded.
