"It is not necessary to make hasty conclusions about the breakthrough of Russian troops in the Ukrainian defense in the Kursk region, because the Ukrainian defense forces can bring positive news. This was stated by the head of the Center for Military Legal Studies, military expert Alexander Musienko, reports UNIAN.
Musiyenko was responding to a question about information previously reported by Forbes analyst David Ax that the Armed Forces of Ukraine appeared to be stuck south of the city of Veseloye (Kursk Oblast) and fell into a "brutal ambush" there, losing their valuable equipment.
Musienko recalled that "today there are about 50,000 Russian soldiers in Kursk, but these troops are limited by Ukrainian forces".
"This is the minimum number that will certainly not go east," Musienko said.
He added that attacks are being carried out by the Russians and breakthroughs are being registered from time to time, "because the enemy is accumulating forces and means".
"I wouldn't jump to conclusions about this invasion. Because I think we will also see some positive news in that sense because, this breakthrough - it is without stabilization of the flanks. It's just a breakout, an attempted breakout that can generally be stopped, including flanking operations. There, our flanks behave quite well", Musienko emphasized.
According to him, this does not mean that there is a "large-scale Russian counteroffensive, which is already pushing Ukrainian troops out of the Kursk region".
"They did similar things a month ago. I want to remind you that in September there was an attack also on this flank in the Korenevo area. Unfortunately, they managed to hide their pontoon crossings just below the water level, less visible to aerial reconnaissance. Because of this, they were not always struck in time. But they were still hit and that's why they got some troops," the military expert emphasized.
He is convinced that the global situation is under control today.
