Under heavy fire! Israel has stepped up airstrikes on targets in southern Lebanon - 1

The Israeli military carried out an airstrike today on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which is a bastion of the Lebanese Shia movement "Hezbollah", reported France Presse, writes BTA.

In addition, Israeli forces carried out a dozen strikes on a town in southern Lebanon after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was against a unilateral ceasefire.

The strike on Beirut's southern suburbs was Israel's first in several days. The southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital is one of the targets of Israeli forces, which they have concentrated their attacks on since they began massive strikes on Lebanon nearly a month ago.

The United States said yesterday that it opposes Beirut being bombed by Israel.

The governor of Nabatieh governorate, Howaida Turk, told AFP that in the city of Nabatieh, controlled by the Lebanese Shiite movement "Hezbollah" and its allies from the Shiite movement "Amal", were struck a dozen times. The city outskirts were also affected.

It was also reported that in an Israeli attack today on the city of Nabatieh, several people were killed, including the mayor of the city.

The Israeli army said it attacked a dozen targets of "Hezbollah" in Nabatieh, including "terrorist infrastructures, command centers of "Hezbollah" and weapons depots".

An army statement also said that Israel's naval forces struck a dozen targets "in coordination with ground forces".

AFP notes, citing official figures, that at least 1,356 people have been killed in Lebanon since September 23. According to the UN, the displaced are nearly 700 thousand.

After nearly a year of skirmishes between "Hezbollah" and Israel across the Lebanese-Israeli border, open warfare broke out between Israeli forces and the Shiite movement in the middle of last month.

Israel says it wants to distance "Hezbollah" from the Israeli-Lebanese border and to end rocket launches by "Hezbollah" on the territory of the Jewish state. The goal is for about 60,000 Israelis, displaced by the attacks of the Lebanese movement, to be able to return home.

On October 7 last year, fighters of the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" carried out an unprecedented attack on Israel.

On October 8, the day after the attack by "Hamas", "Hezbollah" began shelling Israeli territory, saying it was doing so to express its support for "Hamas".

In response to the attack by "Hamas" Israel launched its military operation in the Gaza Strip.

Despite the serious blows that were inflicted on "Hezbollah", the Lebanese movement continued to shell Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday that he opposed a unilateral ceasefire in Lebanon, which he said would not prevent "Hezbollah" to regroup his forces in the border areas.

While Israel continues its operations against "Hezbollah" in Lebanon and against "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip, Israeli leaders say they are preparing a response to an Iranian missile attack on Israel on October 1.

Iran will resolutely respond to all Israeli attacks, said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a telephone conversation yesterday with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
